Bikeportland.org, a local blog dedicated to issues related to bikes in Portland, is expressing concern about an Australian Facebook group named, “There’s a perfectly good path right next to the road you stupid cyclist.”

Bikeportland is calling for Facebook to take down the page, which has nearly 33,000 fans, claiming that it violates the social-networking site’s terms of use, which prohibits any bullying or hateful content.

From Bikeportland:

Free speech is one thing, but making it seem like a joke to run people over is not O.K. We hope that Facebook takes these concerns seriously (hopefully there’s a regular bike rider among their staff) and decides to take action immediately.

Interestingly, a number of bikers have joined the group in order to raze the anti-bike crowd on its comments section.

The League of American Bicyclists has also come out against the Facebook page. In a statement on its website it denounces the page, and also links to a few disturbing incidents where motorists have inflicted rage on cyclists. One of the more notable incidents includes a North Carolina man attempting to shoot a cyclist in the head after an altercation.
