Civil rights leader’s life explored

Beatrice Morrow Cannady was one of Oregon’s most tireless advocates for civil rights and improved race relations. Working for the Advocate, one of Portland’s first African American weeklies, she confronted the pervasive racism that once marked the city.

She later went on to found the Portland chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and became the first female African American lawyer in the state.

Come here about Kimberley Mangun, a professor of communications at the University of Utah, talk about Cannady’s remarkable life this Friday, April 23, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Portland State University’s Smith Memorial Student Union, room 338.
