A funeral was held Thursday, Sept 9, 2010 at Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church for Travis Lawrence Sango.
He was born May 12, 1923 in Muskogee, Okla. to Morris and Lila Parker Sango, the youngest of four children; two boys and two girls.
He graduated from Manuel Training High School in 1941; entered the Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Lizzie Lee Carter Russell in 1957. The couple and their step-children Zenobia and Robert moved to Portland in 1959. He was employed at Tenevalt Chemical Company until he retired.
Travis joined Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church and became an usher. He was a proud door keeper for the Lord, always at his post. You always knew he was in church because of his witness. He had a passion for cards and dominoes, where again he was very loud enjoying the games; you knew he was in the house because he was “the little man with the big voice.”
Travis delivered Meals on Wheels for Loaves and Fishes five days a week for the past 22 years, never missing a day until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, wife Lizzie and step-daughter Zenobia. He leaves to cherish his memory, a cousin Cozine Turner of Omaha, Neb.; chosen daughter Eva N. Miles; God-children Peggy, Sheri and Lisa Miles; grandchildren, Gene, Jimmy, Natasha, Shawntae and Eva Mariea Miles; aunt Ollie Belcher; nephew Paul, and niece Maxine Belcher; Loaves and Fishes volunteers and clients; the Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church family, and many friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Terry Family Funeral Home.
