Latest efforts to keep case in spotlight
Crimestoppers has issued a new alert for information into the suspected murder and disappearance of a Portland teenager and the family of the girl has scheduled a fundraiser and Gospel celebration as it makes new appeals for help.
It’s been five weeks since 14-year-old Yashanee Vaughn was reported missing and believed murdered on March 19. Efforts continue throughout the community to find the girl’s body and understand the truth behind her disappearance.
Searchers from the Multnomah County Sherriff’s office, with assistance from dozens of search and rescue volunteers, conducted a complete search of the Rocky Butte area in northeast Portland to look for evidence, but the body has yet to be located.
According to Sgt. Pete Simpson, the Public Information Officer for the Portland Police Bureau, homicide detectives believe that additional people throughout the area have information surrounding Vaughn’s whereabouts and could possibly be involved with her disappearance and murder.
“Now is the time for those people to come forward and cooperate with the investigation and help Yashanee’s family reach some closure,” Simpson said.
Crime Stoppers of Oregon, which is an organization to prevent and solve crime throughout the state, is offering a reward of up to $1,000 in cash for information that assists in the case or any unsolved felony.
Yashanee’s Family is also taking increased action to help raise funds for the search.
A barbeque fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 1, next door to the Greater Solid Rock Church from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1725 N.E. Dekum St.
The Maranatha Church will also hold a Gospel celebration of the life of Yashanee Vaughn on Friday, May 6, located at 4222 N.E. 12th Ave. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
