He previously spent four years as associate director of athletics at the University of California, San Diego.

A native of Albany, N.Y., he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in education administration and policy studies from the University of Albany.

“Charles Guthrie rose to the top of an outstanding pool of candidates based on a combination of key skills and experience that fit with our vision for the future of Penguin athletics,” said Clark College President Robert K. Knight.

Guthrie said, “It is extremely important to me that student athletes at Clark have a positive experience while competing as a Penguin. I value their commitment to be successful in their sport, in the classroom and in the community.”
