Applications have deadlines set
Portland’s public housing agency Home Forward will soon have openings to get on a wait list for subsidized housing at several apartments.
“These don’t happen very often, and they’re the only way folks can access these homes, so we like to get the word out,” said Shelley Marchesi, Home Forward director of public affairs.
Rent for the apartments is income-based, with residents paying only 27.5 percent of their total income for rent.
The first opening is at New Columbia in north Portland, where lists for several different apartment sizes will open for three days, from June 26 through Thursday, June 28.
To qualify for these homes, household income must be less than 60 percent of the area median income. Applications will be available starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the leasing office, 4605 N. Trenton St., or for download from newcolumbia.org.
The second opening is for waiting lists at Hollywood East (northeast Portland/studios), Northwest Tower (northwest Portland/studios), Williams Plaza (northwest Portland/studios); and Ruth Haefner Plaza (southwest Portland/1-bedroom apartments.)
To qualify for these apartments, one head of household must be age 55 or older or a have a disability that their doctor can verify, and their household income must be less than 80 percent of the area median income.
The second round of waiting lists will be open from Wednesday, July 11 through Friday, July 13. Applications will be available beginning at 9 a.m. on July 11 at any of Home Forward’s public housing community leasing offices or for download at homeforward.org.
