Students from Oregon Episcopal School have designed a water pump to create a brighter future for people in developing countries.
Students on the school’s InvenTeam designed the pump to increase efficiency of raising water from wells where electricity is not available. They used materials commonly available throughout the world, such as a bicycle, so the pump can be constructed and repaired by those using it.
InvenTeams are part of a national initiative to encourage students to rely on inquiry and hands-on problem-solving to find solutions to real problems.
The invention is currently on exhibit through Jan. 5 at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, 724 N.W. Davis St.
