Portland’s premier Latino theatre group, Miracle Theater, returns a national touring production of Frida, un retablo.
In Tehuantepec dress with eyebrows taking flight like the wings of a raven, Frida Kahlo is legendary for her numerous affairs, self-portraits and an independence that inspired generations of feminists around the world.
From the streetcar accident that left her crippled, to her torrid relationship with muralist Diego Rivera, life and art intertwine in this story of one of Mexico’s most acclaimed visual artists. She was called a surrealist, but Frida said she never painted dreams, only her own reality.
The bilingual production opens with a preview night on Thursday, Jan. 10 and continues with shows on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Jan. 19 at Milagro Theatre, 525 S.E. Stark St.
Admission is $12 to $24 with discounts for students, seniors, and groups. Visit milagro.org or call 503-236-7253.
