Rebecca, that's a really good point you bring up. A local columnist has some insight on it:

WAS the area really called JUMPTOWN? The older locals I've asked have no recollection of that name. Curious.

"The original Jumptown was an African American part of Portland, now occupied by the Rose Quarter, that was know for its many jazz clubs, like the Dude Ranch, and lively night life in the mid 20th century. For touring bands, playing Jumptown was a must, and people could be seen visiting clubs all hours of the night."

If you want a company that will negatively impact your city for years to come then Cordish is the way to go.

Build your lawsuit fund now. Also get your new signs ready to go. White Town has a nice ring to it.

Get ready to spend $10 a pop on domestic beer. Don't cry when your new White Town is only half full of businesses which means most of the restaurants fail and the only thing left is crap bars like Tengo Sed and PBR or franchise Mex places like Chipotle, which only cater to scared white folks from the 'burbs.

Be prepared to spend your own city money on trying to prop up the place like K.C. has to do because Cordish can't make the loan payments.

If I was a restaurant or bar owner in Portland I would be prepared when Cordish sends the city to cut your hours, take away your liquor licenses and try to close your joint because they want your citizens to go to Cordish's restaurants and bars so they can try to make their loan payments. It is happening in K.C. right now.

I bet this goes through because the owners of the Blazers have never been accused of being smart.

Get every single promise from Cordish on paper.
