Portland YouthBuilders has begun its winter enrollment drive for low income young people between the ages of 17 and 24 who have dropped out of high school. The enrollment period continues through early-December with the first day of class scheduled for Jan. 6.
Interested young people can call Thurston Spicer, admissions and student support coordinator, at 503-286-9350 extension 254 or come to a free, no obligation 90 minute information session every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the YouthBuilders school at 4816 S.E. 92nd Ave.
The 16-month program offers a supportive academic learning environment; high school diploma or GED; hands-on vocational training in construction or computer technology; placement in college, apprenticeship, and employment; long term support to secure a stable career pathway; a drug-free environment; and a monthly financial stipend.
The school is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission as a diploma-granting high school, and is an approved pre-apprenticeship program by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.
