Startup businesses looking to grow their business may want to apply for the Portland Development Commission’s Startup PDX Challenge competition this year.

Up to six startup ventures will receive a $15,000 working capital grant, a full year of rent-free office space in the New Market Theater building at 115 S.W. Ash St., free professional advice and services, and free access to entrepreneurial organizations and programs for a year.

Applications began on Tuesday. The PDC is placing special emphasis on businesses which are diverse in terms of gender, race, and other demographics typically underrepresented in the business world.

“PDC is dedicated to growing the next generation of diverse leadership in our innovation economy,” said Patrick Quinton, PDC executive director. “The success of underrepresented minority and women entrepreneurs will help Portland remain competitive in the global economy.”
