Black Nativity Holiday Classic

A gorgeous holiday classic that celebrates gospel music and African-American history comes to Portland when PassinArt: A Theatre Company presents “Black Nativity,” a soul-stirring play that fills the theatre with thrilling voices, exciting movement and glorious gospel music.
This powerful retelling of the Nativity story was written by the late African American poet and playwright Langston Hughes, with local direction by Jerry Foster and musical direction by Tommy Hammond.
“Black Nativity” runs from Friday, Dec. 11 through Sunday, Dec. 20, with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows at 3 p.m., at the Greater St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, 3605 N.E. Mallory Ave. Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Group rates for 10 or more visitors are available at $15 per person on advance purchases. A special community night performance on Thursday, Dec. 10 is $12.50 per person.
