After bringing his energizing “Lifted!” to Portland in 2017, Philadelphia-based Rennie Harris is back with his latest acclaimed show “Funkedified.”
Featuring Harris’ thrilling eight-member company of break-dancers, exciting four member Hood Lockers and a live four-piece funk band, the show is a nonstop explosion of incredible moves and sounds. It’s hip-hop through a different lens, a multi-media work that celebrates funk music and street dance of the 1970s and is set against a landscape of a video montage of African American communities of that era.
Presented by Portland’s White Bird Dance series, performances will take place over three nights at the Newmark Theater, downtown, beginning Thursday, March 5 and continuing through Saturday, March 7. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
This is a show for all ages. Tickets start at $25, available at whitebird.org and Portland’5 Box Office, 1111 S.W. Broadway, with no added fees, or call 503-245-1600, extension 201 where there is an additional $3 per ticket charge for processing over the phone.
