(AP) — The suspect in the shooting of a 25-year-old Portland man Sunday morning at the Mingle Lounge, a hip hop and R&B nightclub in Old Town/Chinatown, has turned himself in to authorities.
Rolando L. Mingledoff Jr., 22, surrendered to homicide detectives on Monday afternoon, police said.
He was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
JaMarie Herring, 25, was identified by Portland police as the man killed Sunday in a shooting inside the Mingle Lounge, downtown.
Officers were flagged down at 1:48 a.m. Sunday after a shooting inside the night club. They found 25-year-old JaMarie Herring Sr. of Portland with gunshot wounds. Herring died on the way to a hospital.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to KOIN-TV that Mingledoff is the son of Mingle Lounge owner Rolando Mingledoff.
A probable cause affidavit filed by prosecutors said video surveillance footage showed several fights breaking out inside the bar before the shooting. Herring is observed punching Mingledoff, causing him to fall back to a seating area, and then Mingledoff rising to feet and firing a handgun to Herring’s backside while Herring was turned away.
Police said another shooting incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday in the same area while some were holding a vigil for Herring. Investigators believe at least 50 rounds were fired from multiple guns and that five men were hit.
Police say this remains an active investigation and ask anyone who was at Mingle Lounge during the shooting to contact them by e-mailing crimetips@portlandoregon.gov and referencing case number 21-233879.
