More households will get maximum benefit
In the midst of the coronavirus health crisis, the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) announced Friday that the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is receiving a $30 million boost from the federal governmen to allow some qualifying individuals and families using SNAP to buy more food.
If you are already enrolled in SNAP and your monthly SNAP benefit is already the maximum amount, it will remain the same because of a decision made by the federal government, state officials said. But if your benefit was less than the maximum amount allowed per household based on your prior or current income, you will get a supplemental SNAP benefit up to the maximum SNAP amount based on family size.
The maximum SNAP benefit is $194 monthly for a household of 1; $355 for a household of 2; $509 for a household of 3; $646 for a household of 4; $768 for a household of 5; and an addition $146 for each additional person.
Officials said households using SNAP will automatically receive the additional allotment in the same way they receive their current benefits if they qualify. For most customers this is an EBT card.
