Training Center Rebuild to Begin

Portland Community College will break ground Thursday on a major project to rebuild and expand the Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center in northeast Portland.

The plans call for a 50,000-square-foot facility, which received funding from the 2017 PCC bond measure, to combine classrooms, meeting rooms, open workspace as well as a community room and common areas – all housed in a cutting-edge mass timber and mass plywood community-based facility.

In addition, the college is partnering with Home Forward, the housing authority for Multnomah County, to develop, build and operate a housing project that will provide 84 affordable apartments on the site.

The workforce training center has historically worked with community members who are receiving public assistance to gain skills needed for employment. When it opens to the public in June 2023, the site will be PCC’s newest hub of opportunity.
